Redefining the Last Mile

It’s barely a secret that human beings have a strong inclination towards moving ahead in a rather purpose manner. We feel more certain about things, if our steps seem meaningful enough. Such a dynamic, as you would guess, encourages us to develop productive habits, and apart from these habits, we also focus extensively on manufacturing external avenues for our growth. Now, when it comes to external elements, we have put-together a ton of them over the years. While the world did so, it got value and some lessons in the process. However, the only attempt that brought both was concerned with developing technology. Technology’s quick rise to fame was driven largely by how seamlessly it ended up raising the floor for an entire spectrum. This versatility enabled the creation in terms of gaining a strong footing across all sectors, and even once that was achieved, technology didn’t stop. It has continued to elevate these sectors since then in whichever way possible under given circumstances, and with its latest stride, the creation is looking to inspire a massive Walmart customer base.

Walmart has officially revealed a plan to expand the company’s InHome delivery service. Initially launched in 2019, the service has been a resounding success, but there is a more ambitious pathway ahead. According to some reports, Walmart now aims at pushing the service to over 30 million households by the end of 2022. The new and bigger framework will see InHome delivery becoming available in areas like Dallas, Nashville, Los Angeles, Chicago, Indianapolis, Houston, and many more. To make it a smooth scale up, Walmart is also planning on hiring more than 3,000 drivers over the next year. Apart from it, the company already has an intention of building an all-electric delivery fleet in the near future.

“Above all else, convenience is the leading factor for our customers,” said Tom Ward, Walmart’s SVP of last-mile delivery “People love to get on doing the things they want to do, and they don’t always want to wait at home for deliveries or whatever it might be…Really, the ultimate convenience is to come home and find all the items you bought waiting for you at home.”

Currently priced at $19.95 per month, Walmart’s InHome delivery service offers you a viable way out from having to wait for your grocery deliveries. Instead, all you have to do is place an order online, and while you are away, a delivery worker will turn up and place your groceries within your refrigerator, therefore eliminating any need for you to stay at home or even rush back.

It must be noted that the whole setup relies on smart lock technology and a video camera worn on the delivery driver’s uniform. Walmart uses front door smart entry technology provided by its partner, Level Home, for facilitating the InHome delivery operation.
