The AI Future is Closer than Ever Before

Even though it might like the most practical option at times, we, as humans, cannot afford to stop imagining a better future. You see, this is not just about optimizing our potential, but it also has a lot to do with avoiding stagnation over time. Hence, with such a high risk in play, we have wisely created specific tools that can guide us through various circumstances, while fuelling our growth simultaneously. Now, if we take a moment and assess these tools, we are bound to notice how unique they are in their nature, and yet none of that matters once you reach a certain tool called technology. Technology overshadows everything else on the back of some really crucial factors. For starters, unlike any other solution humans have ever conceived, technology didn’t restrict itself to be a mere guide for us. Instead, it went out rather aggressively and scaled up every imaginable aspect of our lives. When you have a setup like that firing on all cylinders, it’s almost natural to expect significant improvement on a personal level as well. We would use the said improvement to come up with even better ideas for using technology in the most efficient way possible, and our one major idea happened to revolve around artificial intelligence. Since breaking on to the scene, AI has quickly managed to find a place for itself in the world. The concept’s impact on us has, in fact, been so tremendous that is now rightfully viewed as the centerpiece of our next era. Nevertheless, DeepMind’s latest brainchild shows how the transition to get there is already underway.

Alphabet’s subsidiary, DeepMind has successfully created an AI system called AlphaCode, which is designed to revolutionize the way we do coding. Eliminating any need for human help, the new system “writes computer programs at a competitive level.” According to certain reports, DeepMind tested its capabilities with coding complications provided by Codeforces, a competitive coding platform that shares weekly problems and issues rankings for coders. Even though these problems were notably different from, let’s say, what is faced by a regular coder, ranking among top 54% of human coders was certainly an impressive feat on AlphaCode’s part. Assuming the technology is able to develop sustainably, it can become a valuable instrument in facilitating attempts at coding, even for someone who knows very little about it. Furthermore, it can open up all sorts of avenues for developing software in a whole new way.

“I can safely say the results of AlphaCode exceeded my expectations,” said Codeforces founder, Mike Mirzayanov “I was skeptical [sic] because even in simple competitive problems it is often required not only to implement the algorithm, but also (and this is the most difficult part) to invent it. AlphaCode managed to perform at the level of a promising new competitor.”
