Getting Over the Hump

While there are many different things that tend to define human beings, none of them do it like our tendency to grow on a rather consistent basis. You see, when someone is pursuing growth under all possible situations, they eventually guide themselves towards some notable milestones. This is reflected by everything we have achieved so far. However, if we were to pick the best representation of the sane, we won’t have to look beyond technology. Technology gets to be the ultimate answer here because of reasons that are bigger than just its ingenious skill-set. For instance, they revolve a lot around the creation’s reach, which would span across our entire spectrum, and consequentially, make us an entirely tech-driven society. Nevertheless, even after establishing a strong presence within each and every area, technology will continue bringing the right goods, and by doing so, it will help us in optimizing the capabilities at our disposal. This dynamic has been on full display over the recent past. In fact, Amazon’s latest decision should only take it a step ahead.

Amazon has officially revealed plans to launch its inaugural drone delivery service in Lockeford, California. While the company is targeting a date in late 2022, the whole operation would still need a green light from the Federal Aviation Administration before kicking things off. To give it every chance of succeeding, Amazon is notably working on an obstacle avoidance technology. Furthermore, the company is also looking for ways through which it can get the drones to operate Beyond the Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS), which is basically a technical jargon that describes the operation of drones at distances outside the normal visible range of the pilot.

“In terms of further approvals, FAA will review our plans and confirm that our proposed operation in Lockeford accords with the National Environmental Policy Act,” Av Raichura Zammit, a spokesperson for Amazon.

Assuming the operation is approved, it will put an end to a decade-long wait for a drone delivery service from Amazon. It was in 2013, when former Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos shared an intention to launch 30-minute drone deliveries. Since then, the company has designed and redesigned its Prime air delivery, even revealing concrete launch plans on various occasions, but so far, all those promises have remained unfulfilled. Instead, the program has run into problems time and time again, including five crashes within a timeframe of four months. However, the company seems confident about finally getting over the hump in 2022. As per Amazon, thousands of items will be eligible for drone delivery, but the company, at the moment, is still yet to provide us with an explicit list.
