Heating up the Autonomous Wave

Despite always vying for growth, a bigger part of human population had made their peace with the fact that some things will remain out of their reach. For them, there was a logical realism in this belief; hence they strongly clung on to it. However, there were some exceptions here disguised as individuals who refused to believe it. Instead, they set off on a journey to find that missing link, which will connect them to everything that feels just too far right now. The pursuit kept on hitting the wall for a long time before a breakthrough arrived. Now, even though these individuals had essentially spent their entire lives in looking for it, when the breakthrough came, the size of their sacrifice looked more than justified. What had sounded like stupid dream initially was now a reality, as technology started proving its credentials for being that highly sought-after missing link, except it didn’t just bridge the gaps. Once the idea of technology was embraced worldwide, it opened up a host of channels, which were all focused on elevating us as individuals, and as a society. This, in return, prompted us to reimagine the vision we had for the concept, giving it the rightful place of utmost importance in our lives. Walking along those lines, we have continued to prioritize further development of technology. Nevertheless, to make things easy, we have staggered it across different sectors, and one sector that has done a lot lately to expand and diversify the tech presence in our lives is the field of automotive. It is doing so through various ways, but the most prominent one for now looks to be autonomous vehicles. Things have remained consistently eventful on that front, with the latest development just delivered by autonomous vehicle company, Aurora.

Aurora has officially announced that it will be soon rolling out subscriptions for its autonomous taxis and trucks. The self-driving trucks are penciled for a launch in 2023, and the company has chosen now as the right time to reveal more about its unique take on autonomous driving. Till now, we have witnessed an extensive amount of focus on providing self-driving experience to individuals, but Aurora’s targeted segment will be logistics firms and other companies that are somewhat reliant on for-hire vehicle fleets. Named as Aurora Horizon, the company’s trucking service is aiming to bolster the relevance of autonomous transportation “with a reliable and scalable driver supply powered by the Aurora Driver.”

The Aurora Driver here is, of course, the hardware and software that will be working in sync to guide the vehicle through ranging situations. On the other hand, the company’s ride-hailing service, Aurora Connect is tentatively looking at a launch in 2024. With this particular offering, Aurora intends to scale up the ride-hailing industry, as it plans on sustaining the autonomous push through one-of-a-kind software solution.

It’s interesting that the company has decided to use the subscription model for these services, but big names like Tesla have shown that it can prove to be an effective approach over a long stretch. Furthermore, to add value to the subscription, Aurora will be giving Aurora Horizon and Connect subscribers complete access to its mission control system, Aurora Beacon, and to the company’s roadside assistance program, Aurora Shield.
