Another Failed Attempt at Stopping the Tire-fire

Considering how skilled human beings are in every aspect, we carry a genuine obligation to fulfill our potential over time. However, doing so is easier said than done. You see, as humans try to excel on every possible front, we run into certain problems every once in a while, and some of these problems actually end up sidetracking us from our course. This would prompt us to look for ways through which we can make the said process more guided. Now, while the said journey will span beyond the known waters, it’s not going to hit its biggest milestone until we discover technology. Out of all our achievements, technology enjoys being the biggest one mainly because it was successful in making a mark throughout the spectrum. In fact, by attaching expansive reach to an already unprecedented skill-set, the creation practically altered the world’s whole identity. With renewed horizons taking the centre stage, we’ll witness the emergence of some hugely positive by-products along the way, and yet various occasions also talk to how technology hasn’t always hit the bulls-eye. A recent decision from Facebook testifies for that exact case.

Meta has officially decided to shut down Campus, which was a section on the platform dedicated to college students. Launched in September 2020, Facebook Campus was supposed to be company’s shot at attracting and retaining young users. It offered a special news feed, groups, chat rooms, events, and more as tools to enhance your college life experience. If you look back, you’ll see that the section actually started off strong; with a pilot in 30 US schools eventually segwaying into 60 colleges and universities. By walling the section from Facebook’s main app and keeping the user interaction limited to just their college-mates, the social media giant even tried to enlist as much privacy as possible, but the move will never deliver the desired results. The said failure is reflected clearly in one report, which confirms a 13% drop in young Facebook users since 2019, and with all the controversies surrounding the company right now, this decline is only expected to get steeper.

“We’ve decided to end our pilot of Facebook Campus,” said Leah Luchetti, a Meta spokesperson. “We learned a lot about the best ways to support college students, and one of the most effective tools to help bring them together is Facebook Groups. We’ve notified students in the test schools that Campus will no longer be available, and have suggested relevant college Facebook groups for them to join.”

In case they want any data, Campus users have a chance to download it before March 10th 2022 deadline.
