Kickstarting the Logistics Revolution

To live a rather meaningful life, we are very much required to embrace certain factors over the due course. One notable factor here happens to be the way we adapt. You see, a human life is designed to go through drastically different experiences, so if we are not able to adapt on a timely basis, we set ourselves up for some uncomfortable outcomes. Something of this sort nearly materialized once technology turned up on the block. A unique concept from the get-go, technology had masses in serious doubt about its reliability. However, fortunately enough, this hesitation was shown the door before it got too late, and for that courage, we’ll be rewarded in spades. Talk of technology’s impact; it’s evident throughout the spectrum, except even after taking over the entire landscape, the creation will continue to alter our lives under some capacity or the other. In fact, as we move forward, these alterations are only going to get more and more intelligible, therefore giving the world a whole new dimension. An example of this dimension was put on full display by Wing’s recent announcement.

Wing, the drone delivery company operated by Google-parent Alphabet, is officially kickstarting its commercial operations in the US. According to certain reports, the company has decided to start deployment from Dallas-fort worth metro area, with suburban towns, Frisco and Little Eli placed at the heart of all initial plans. The operation is largely based upon Wing’s partnerships with various stores, including Walgreens, Blue Bell Creameries, Easyvet, and Texas Health, who’ll have the company’s quadcopters to fulfill their online orders. Once an order has been received, the personnel at the store are supposed to transfer the item to a shipping container parked outside. This container is basically a cardboard box that comes attached with the drone. After every item is onboard, Wing’s operations team will take over and remotely pilot the drone to customer’s location.

“This is an important milestone for Wing and drone delivery in the U.S. “I do want to set clear expectations: not everyone who lives within range of our drones will be able to order on Day 1” said Adam Woodworth, CEO at Wing. “We’re going to invite customers in groups to make sure everyone has a good first experience with drone delivery.”

Despite all the noise around it, the drone deliver idea is still pretty much limited to the small scale. Granted, it has played a big role during the pandemic by transporting stuff like vaccines, blood, and other related things, but that big break hasn’t yet arrived. Hence, in such a situation, Wing has every shot at being early to what could be a billion-dollar party. Refocusing on its new commercial bid, the company began testing the service last year, and as far as the launch is concerned, it’s set to take place on 7th April 2022.

If we are discussing Wing, we cannot close without mentioning the actual product. Wing’s drones are designed to carry out the function of both a fixed-wing aircraft and a hovering copter. Interestingly enough, these drones don’t even have to land to deliver goods, a template that is followed by Amazon. Instead, they just descend to a height of 23 feet before delivering the package through a tether.
