Modernizing Your Shopping Sprees

One of the greatest things about a human life is how you can always make it better over time. This, in particular, has allowed us to hit upon some huge milestones, with technology appearing as a major part of the stated group. The reason why technology has always been so notably great is predicated upon its unique skill-set, which introduced to all those possibilities that we could have never imagined otherwise. However, the whole runner was also, at the same time, inspired by how we applied the stated skills in a real-world setting. The latter component, in fact, had a huge role in giving the sector a spectrum-wide presence, and consequentially, kickstarting a tech revolution. Now, while this revolution would go on to transform our lives from every conceivable direction, it will, even after achieving so much, somehow continue scaling up the picture. The same has only turned more and more evident over the recent past, and going by Walmart’s latest move, it should rightfully look to get a lot stronger moving forward.

Walmart is officially set to expand support for its AI-powered virtual try-on technology, which is designed to enhance customer experience by letting people visualize clothing on models that look like themselves in both appearance and body type. Up until now, shoppers would have the option to scour through a group of models and select the most similar-looking one so to see how a piece of clothing will likely look on their own body. However, with the new “Be Your Own Model” technology, Walmart is giving everyone a chance to use their own pictures during the selection process, and consequentially, gain a much more accurate impression of a product. The move, interestingly enough, further contextualizes Walmart’s acquisition of the startup Zeekit. You see, Zeekit, back in 2021, was pretty much known for its computer vision and neural network-powered feature that was conceived to analyze catalog images of garments to create a precisely dressed image of a person. Hence, when you put such an ingenious idea alongside Walmart’s scale, you create an optimal avenue to reimagine our very shopping experience.

“This will be the first time [customers] can see themselves. And they’re gonna see themselves in the product detail page; they’ll see themselves in the product landing page. Frankly, it’s why I was so excited to acquire the Zeekit product, to begin with — because gamification of shopping hasn’t really existed in the past…we think this is the future of shopping,” said Denise Incandela, Walmart EVP Apparel Division and Private Brands.

To avail the feature, customers must start by clicking their picture through the Walmart iOS app. This will get the image into the system, and from there onwards, you can use it to try-on any supported clothing item. Assuming the user has signed-in, their picture will remain associated to their account for future use, but they will still have the option to delete it at their own discretion.
