Snapchat has just launched its new tool ‘Run for Office’, which is designed to educate young users about various political campaigns and related components, thus encouraging them for building a career in politics. The Run for Office basically brings to you a portal loaded with apps that is accessible on the Snapchat platform itself. Any user can use it to gain knowledge about issues they feel an affinity with, as well as learn about political offices in their ZIP code. The platform then puts you through to candidate recruitment organizations, which include names like New Politics, Run for Something, Run GenZ, and the LGBTQ Victory Institute.

Built on BallonReady’s API, the portal allows users to get information of over 75,000 upcoming elections that are staggered across federal, state, and local levels. Once the interested user picks up an issue, the portal will let them know about potential roles and which one will be most suitable. Next up, the user will be required to fill out all the relevant personal details. Interestingly, Snapchat also lets you share your candidacy with your friends with the help of attractive stickers. In case the user isn’t interested himself, they can even nominate their friends who have leadership attributes.

Run for Office tool comes after Snapchat’s success with features like voter registration, voter guide, and voting checklist in the past. According to the company, they got over 1.2 million users to register for voting in 2020 elections, with nearly half of them being first-time voters.

“We hope launching the ‘Run for Office’ mini changes the idea of who can be in office — that no matter who you are, where you come from, that you can make a difference in your local community by running for office based on the issues they care most about,” said Sofia Gross, Snapchat’s head of policy partnerships and social impact.
