Reddit Acquires Spiketrap for an Undisclosed Fee; Plans to Scale Up Ad Quality Scoring and Prediction Models

Human beings are known to be good at a ton of things, and yet there is nothing we do better than growing on a consistent basis. This tendency has already allowed us to hit upon some huge milestones, with technology appearing as a major member of the stated group. The reason why give technology so much traction is largely predicted upon its skill-set that gave us a set of offerings we had never even imagined before. Beyond the innate quality, however, the whole runner was also inspired by the manner in which those skills were particularly utilized. In hindsight, we can easily see how it was, in fact, the latter factor that realized a spectrum-wide presence for the creation, and consequentially, kickstarted a tech revolution. This tech revolution, in turn, did a lot scale up our lives, but even after improving us in every imaginable regard, it will keep on bringing all the right goods to the table. If anything, the stated pattern has become more and more evident over the recent past, and a recent acquisition should only take it a step ahead.

Reddit is officially set to acquire audience contextualization company, Spiketrap, for what is being reported as an undisclosed fee. According to certain reports, the acquisition will enable Reddit in regards to improving around areas like ad quality scoring. It is also expected to solidify the company’s prediction models for powering auto-bidding. Founded in 2016, Spiketrap has managed to morph AI into various valuable representations. For instance, the company’s proprietary Clair AI technology is very much known for having that capability to extract the “signal from the noise” of unstructured datasets. The value to emerge from doing so, when partnered with an extensive knowledge graph, allows Spiketrap to offer a range of solutions in contextual ad targeting, impact measurement, brand safety monitoring, and so much more.

The company has another ingenious AI product in Emotion AI, which as the name suggests, is equipped to detect the sentiment around a post, like excitement, sarcasm or toxicity. This, in particular, becomes an interesting addition for Reddit once you realize how badly the tech giant has struggled to have an effective moderation setup.

“We believe targeting relevant audiences based on interests and with the context of the conversations they are engaging in helps ensure advertisers are reaching the right people in the most efficient ways,” said Reddit EVP of Ads Monetization, Shariq Rizvi. “We have been actively investing in solutions to this end for some time and this acquisition will round out Reddit’s capability, taking it to the next level. I am thrilled to welcome the Spiketrap team to the Reddit family,”

If you have been keeping up with the tech block, you’d know Spiketrap isn’t the first company Reddit has purchased in 2022. During the month of June, the company successfully acquired Spell, a platform for running machine learning experiments. Just a month later, Reddit bought out MeaningCloud, a company that boasted a similar unique selling point to Spiketrap.
