Shaking Up the Larger Landscape

Many times, we miss out on things just because of our unwillingness to move proactively. By waiting for too long, humans not only waste that particular opportunity, but we also waste a chance to aid our overall growth. This dynamic has been strongly evident throughout the history. Hence, to better position ourselves in terms of taking our chances from the scruff of their neck, we have created various helpful channels, which work tirelessly to guide us at every possible step. Now, notably enough, all these channels bear a unique responsibility, so for technology to come and provide these offerings through a unified medium, and that too in their most efficient form, was why the creation went on to becoming such a generational tool. Furthermore, technology’s success in building upon that crazy achievement did the rest to solidify its high stature among the modern generation. As a part of the creation’s pursuit for continuous progression, it has scaled up the whole human spectrum. Today, we are witnessing an unprecedented reality within each area around us, and one of the many examples for that can be seen in our automotive industry. Stoked up by a newfound fascination for autonomous vehicles, the sector has made huge leaps in the recent past. However, a decision from the industry-giant, Mercedes-Benz conveys that we might have even better things waiting on the wings for us.

Mercedes-Benz has officially announced that it will make Luminar’s lidar sensors a core feature of its upcoming vehicles. The said decision came after the company acquired an equity stake in Luminar, taking home a reported sum of 1.5 million shares, which set the company back by $20.2 million. On the other hand, the deal will give Luminar an access into the data pool of Mercedes’ vehicles, something that Luminar CEO, Austin Russell expects to help significantly in improving the company’s autonomous vehicle software. Although it’s a big move for the larger automotive scene, we still don’t know when we are going to see Luminar’s lidar sensors in a Mercedes’ car, which model will be the first one to get it or in what capacity it will function.

“This partnership is a landmark moment in the industry, demonstrating how substantially increased safety and autonomous driving functions on consumer vehicles are going from sci-fi to mainstream,” said Austin Russell, founder and CEO of Luminar.

Apart from Mercedes-Benz, companies like Volvo, Audi, Toyota, Airbus, and more, have already put their trust in Luminar’s lidar systems. Still, though, as soon as the news was made public, Luminar saw its shares rise up by a whopping 19%.
